KINDERGARTEN - VOLLEYBALL |
|
Lesson 1
BALL HANDLING TO THE AIR: Part 1 – Warm up with Bridge
Tag. Part 2 - Introduce ball-handling skills with playground
ball to the air. Teach the concept of follow through toward the
target (which in this case is the space above the student in
their own space). Discuss the concepts of throwing and catching,
in relation to the ball going up, and catching the ball from
above. |
|
Lesson 2
BALL HANDLING TO THE AIR
CONTINUED: Part 1 – Set up three ball handling
stations and three fitness stations. (2 Cardiovascular and 1
Strength) Part 2 - Explore the idea of catching the ball at
various places, in relation to the body. (IE: Throw the ball
up, and catch it while it is still above your head. Throw the
ball up and catch it while it in front of your stomach. Throw
the ball up and catch it when it is front of your knees. Etc.)
Changing levels to throw and catch the ball. Practice
changing levels to throw and catch the ball. Throw the ball up
from a high level and change levels to catch it in a medium
level. Give the students at least three different examples
before moving on to part 3. Part 3 – This part should allow the
children an opportunity to be creative. Start you toss in a high
level, change levels to catch it. (The creative part is the
choice of level to catch.) Choose a level to toss the ball into
the air, and then change level to catch it. You can also combine
the two concepts taught in part 2 to create the part three. Show
me how you can start your throw from a high level, change levels
to catch the ball, and catch it while it is still above your
head! Throw the ball from any level you choose, catch it in a
new level, but catch the ball when it is in front of your
stomach. |
|
Lesson 3
TRAVELING AND BODY PARTS AND SHAPES: Part 1 – Set out
stations of ball handling and fitness cards. Different from the
ones used last lesson. Part 2/3 – Either by using the lesson in
the book, or ideas from the activities section, work on body
parts and shapes as well as traveling. This will provide a base
for the later lessons that encourage the use of different body
parts. |
|
Lesson 4
STRIKING A BALLOON TO SELF: Part 1 – Warm up with a fun
warm up game that has lots of running! Part 2 – Striking a
balloon to self, using a variety of body parts. Discuss what to
look at, what part of the balloon the hand should hit when you
want to hit it up to the air. Encourage the students to try a
variety of body parts. Part 3 – After practicing a variety of
body parts hitting the balloon up and staying in own space,
create a sequence of 3 parts to hit the ball with. |
|
Lesson 5
STRIKE A BALL (YARN
OR FOAM BALL) WITH ONE HAND OR THE OTHER: Part 1 – Clean up
your back yard. (If you have indoor space, use balloons if not
use yarn balls) Striking the ball, with the hand, over the fence
into the other yard. Part 2 - Review the steps learned last
lesson using yarn balls. Introduce the concept of the knees and
legs helping with the direction the ball will go. Still work
individually, and in own space. Part 3 - Should include hitting
the ball to a target, with their hand. |
|
Lesson 6
RACKETS: Part 1 – Warm up with a Fitness work out. Part
2 - Be sure to include a safety session regarding swinging the
rackets. Remind the students to put the racket down when you say
freeze. Anyone not being safe with the racket should have to put
the racket away as a part of his or her time out. Beanbag paddle
play. |
|
Lesson 7
RACKETS: Part 1 –
Warm up with a fun running game. Part 2 - Start with balloons
(if you have no indoor space use yarn balls) in own space.
Review the steps you used with hands to strike the ball. Part 3
- Introduce the yarn balls, or wiffle balls if you started with
yarn balls. How many times can you hit it up in the air before
it hits the ground? Can you hit the ball up, let it bounce once
and then hit it up again? Can you hit it up into the air, turn
the racket over and hit it with the other side. If you are using
whiffle balls, can you use the racket to bounce the ball to the
ground? |
|
Lesson 8
CONTINUE HITTING THE
WIFFLE BALL WITH THE RACKETS IN OWN SPACE: Part 1 - Play
clean up your backyard using striking a yarn ball with rackets.
(Be sure you have plenty of space if your going to use the
rackets for this game!) Part 2 - Fast review of striking. Part 3
- Hit the ball to the ground as many times in a row as you can.
Hit the ball up one time and then down the next. Hit the ball
using your racket one time, and your hand the next. Turn the
racket over each time you hit the ball. Hit the ball with the
racket held in your strong hand and then hit the ball with the
racket in your weak hand. Each time you hit the ball, switch the
racket to the other hand. |
